Tomorrow night at midnight, Melbourne time, 4 pm Italian time, I will taking part at a google hangout on live stream at youtube channel La cosa with a few other Italian students abroad. La cosa (the thing) is the official channel for the Movimento 5 stelle, a grassroots social, political and environmental movement that connects citizens around projects that benefit all the community and that has recently reached an impressive result at national elections in Italy. We will chat about different educational systems around the world, what works, what doesn’t, and how we’d improve the Italian system around education, University and Academia. I will bring my experience here at RMIT, Australia and I’ll try and put together a little video to introduce my experience in Melbourne. Meanwhile, I am following italian events with trepidation and confusion, trying to reach the essence of my message and the way to convey it in my symbolic and abstract representation through what will become my final year project, my short animation around the inner states that move emotions and reaction before they affect decisions, actions and, eventually, politics and he society. I am observing how anger and hopelessness are such easy states to experience when assisting such discouraging developments (nothing is changing, even when everything seems to be different) yet they are exactly what keeps us from effectively creating something else, new and powerful. It’s hard to convey energy towards the dream, but that’s a choice worth making. See you there.
